Thank you, Brazos Valley! Let’s keep the wheels turning for Bike Month

Can you spot yourself? A massive turnout for our National Bike Month Proclamation at City Hall last night. 📸: City of College Station (Click to expand and see the full group!)

First, a massive thank you to everyone who came out to City Hall last night to celebrate May as National Bike Month! Look at this turnout! Year after year, our Bike Month proclamation remains a singular challenge for our friends on the city’s PubComm team (huge thanks to Brody behind the camera!) as they try to squeeze all of us into a massive group photo in the council chambers. Seeing such a diverse crowd—A&M students, faculty and staff, NICA youth riders, the Road Rascals Special Olympics team, the bike polo gang, Southender roadies, and daily commuters on both electric and acoustic bikes—sent a beautiful, undeniable message to the City Council. Showing up matters, and our community showed up in force.

(A quick, friendly reminder: The Active Transportation Master Plan public survey closes this Tuesday. If you haven’t yet, please take two minutes to support the “Level of Traffic Stress 1” standard so our second-graders can ride to school safely! (Link to Feedback on Draft ATMP))

Now, we have a massive lineup of events to celebrate. Here is a quick look at what is coming up—starting tonight!

🚲 TONIGHT: Critical Mass! Kick off the weekend with our monthly last-Friday ride. See you out there! (7pm at Aggieland Cycling)

🏁 Sunday, April 26 Welcome Home, MS150 Riders! College Station is incredibly proud to host the finish line for the MS150. A special, massive shoutout to our very own Kathy Langlotz and John Flynn, who will be riding victoriously right into our hometown. If you are around the finish line, please give them the absolute loudest cheers! If you haven’t made a donation yet, here are fundraising pages for John (Link) and Kathy (Link).

  • Saturday, May 30 (2-4 PM): Ladies Bike Maintenance Clinic

On a very personal note, I am convinced that I could not have made friends with so many of you from behind a windshield and steering wheel. I consider it a blessing that my morning and afternoon commutes are almost always interrupted—delayed by anything from a simple wave to a 15-minute impromptu catch-up on the sidewalk or bike lane. I was truly thankful that last night provided a rare occasion to see so many of y’all together in one place.

This community is active, growing, and deeply resilient. Thank you all for making it so special. Have a great weekend, enjoy the trails and the group campouts, and let’s make this the best Bike Month yet!
